Hike in the mountains

On Monday (17th Feb) we gave the van its first run since we arrived here on the 6th.  We went south to Castellon, mainly to stock up with provisions from the huge Carrefour.  Apart from food, we came away with a light-weight fleece for John (he'd left his one at home) and a smoke alarm (our one in the van decided to bleep very loudly at 3.30am the previous night! - no smoke, but decided it was time it was replaced).   Then we found a motorhome parking area down by the beach where we sat in the sunshine with our lunch, then walked quite a way through the park behind the beach.
We needed to find a seat to drink our flask of tea. Choosing where caused us a bit of a headache!!!!

Yesterday (18th Feb) we signed up for one of the Rally hikes.  3 car loads (14 people) drove up into the mountains to Cevera del Maestrat, a small village on a hilltop about 45 mins. away from Alcossebre.  Charlie, one of the campers led us on a circular walk down and up rugged paths on the hillsides.

A lot of the time we looked across at the village and its church tower and ruined castle.

At one point we came across an old Austin A40 (so the chaps decided) that was rather past its best!
Must have fallen from a great height.

 Lunch spot.
 View towards the sea.
Almost back to our start point.
Charlie spends a lot of time staying at Tropicana and leads lots of the walks.  We discovered that he always ends them by stopping at the Pensioners Club in Alcossebre for a drink!  We'd really enjoyed being led on a walk and this was a fun ending to the day out!  It had stayed rather dull all day, but probably better weather than being too sunny.  (We think we sent the sunshine to Horsham for the day).

Today (Wednesday 19th Feb) we've got the sunshine back, though!  Just staying around the site, chatting a bit to the neighbours, maybe a swim this afternoon.  But we need to tidy up and pack things back in the van later as we are moving on tomorrow .... but not very far .... watch this space ....
